Junior Controller
SomaDetect is a high-growth technology startup in the dairy industry that is looking to expand its development team. We have a diverse team that strives to develop fiercely innovative solutions, with a focus on quality to create products that put farmers first. SomaDetect is now a fully remote company, with team clusters in Buffalo, NY, and across Canada (southern Ontario, Ottawa, Fredericton, and Halifax). This is a remote position. We are looking for a Junior Controllerto join our team on a full time basis. This role will be responsible for full-cycle financial statement reporting/consolidation and budgeting/forecasting. Other responsibilities tied to this role include oversight of a small team, maintaining all procedures and controls related to the company's financial and accounting systems, scenario modelling, and assisting with grants and other financing. Responsibilities and Duties Ensure the accuracy, timing, and integrity of financial reporting results including oversight of full cycle accounting on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis (including ad hoc reporting as required) Responsible for developing/maintaining the systems, policies and controls necessary to ensure the effective management of the business and the accuracy and quality of information. Ensure that all required tax and other regulatory/compliance filings are accurate and current. Work with Jr. Accountant for oversight of all multi-jurisdictional payroll activities Work with CFO to support strategies related to capital investments, financings, banking arrangements, FX/hedging and cash management. Work with the executive team to assist in preparation of materials for board of directors meetings. Ensure monthly, quarterly, year-end processes & claims are completed in a timely manner to ensure accurate financial reporting Optimize all grant application, tracking, and reporting processes. Adhere to corporate policies and procedures for internal controls Maintain appropriate files, reports, documentation, and data and proactively administer our QBO, Expensify, Hubdoc and ADP accounts. Uphold internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, budgets, and actual expenditures, including contracts, leases and insurance policies Qualifications & Requirements CPA designation Post Secondary Degree Finance, Accounting or Business Administration, or its equivalent. 5
years of experience in full cycle accounting Strong knowledge and understanding of financial reporting requirements (ASPE) & consolidations. Experience in working with multiple cross-border legal entities is an asset Must possess strong verbal & written communication skills Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational ability Experience preparing government grants Ability to be flexible and remain calm while working with tight deadlines Good knowledge in Quickbooks Online Computer skills - particularly with Google Suite, Microsoft Excel & Word Hubdoc/Expensify knowledge is an asset
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
